HPV triggers abnormal cell growth that can lead to genital and anal warts, precancerous cell changes dysplasia and intraepithelial neoplasia and, if left untreated, anal cancer , cervical cancer , mouth and throat oropharyngeal cancer and genital malignancies. The Gardasil 9 HPV vaccine , approved in , protects against the two main cancer-causing HPV types 16 and 18 , five other high-risk types and two types 6 and 11 that cause genital and anal warts.

Interviews were audio recorded, transcribed verbatim, and reviewed for accuracy. Using an iterative, constant comparative method [ 33 ], we systematically reviewed and coded transcripts as interviews were completed. We wrote codes for sections or units of texts, and created memos that expanded upon sections of coded text and described relationships across the codes.
Gay Men Are Missing Out on HPV Vaccines
HPV is the virus associated with genital warts. Some health effects caused by HPV can be prevented with vaccines. HPV is so common that nearly all sexually active men and women get it at some point in their lives. There are many different types of HPV. Some types can cause health problems including genital warts and cancers.
